From Binod to Rasoda – The Trending Game Changers

With the pandemic locking everyone inside their homes and making life outside less accessible, it has become easier for content to get viral on social media. People are spending a lot more time on the internet and are paying attention to things either in great detail or mindlessly joining armies and clubs that are already active.
Not getting into details about the trolls that are present in abundance, we will look at the power of the internet on lighter subjects with two recent trends that got viral and how!

BINOD:
Slay point, one of India’s most loved Youtube Channels released a video titled “Why Indian Comments Section is Garbage (BINOD)” on July 15th 2020. In the video, they talk about a comment where a guy mentions his name-Binod Tharu. This may seem like an irrelevant part of a script to many, even the presenters must have taken it to get the laughs, but little did they know, this was just the beginning of one the most viral trends on the internet.

The viewers of the video, later joined by almost everyone on the internet, started commenting “Binod” on every social media platform no matter what the post/video/article was about, the comment section had just one name on it. #Binod was trending on Twitter, streamers, influencers and creators both on a national and international level were flooded by these comments and it was a lot of fun to see them wondering what it was. The mystery earned brownie points for us all.

Indian Youtubers like Tanmay Bhat, Shivam Trivedi and even Slay Point did reaction videos on this trend getting viral, and it seemed like a fun break everyone took on the internet.

RASODE MEIN KAUN THA?:
Yashraj Mukhate, a music producer on 20th August 2020, released a mash-up he did with a clip from a television show titled “Saath Nibhana Sathiya” where he added groovy beats to the dialogue being narrated. The scene he used was a really funny one where a serious discussion seems to be taking place, with dramatic music and shots about chickpeas and who took them out of the pressure cooker.
The absurd nature of the scene and the refined mash-up version made this video a viral sensation. Memes and reels on this are being sent and posted while I type this. Again this trend was covered by influencers and YouTubers and it has also become a part of News debate. Yes, you heard that right. This has to be the prime of a viral trend, can’t get bigger than this.
Yashraj is overwhelmed by the sudden growth in his followers and feels humbled to be appreciated by Kokilaben herself (The main character from the scene). He also has done other mash-ups and individual content, do check it out.

Understanding the situation we are in and the access people have to the internet. The main reason for these trends to go viral is the sense of belonging. A very important virtue of us humans is to feel accepted, validated and know that we are a part of a larger community and are not alone, the reason people join hands and make things grow and go viral. It developed a sense of community, and it definitely can be seen as a positive thing to have happened.

Eagerly waiting to see what September has in store and what crazy, whacky thing will go viral.
